Music: Festivals
Posters
Take a look at these posters.
- What event do you think they are for?
- What information can you see?
Can you recognise any of the names on this poster?
My Town's Music Festival
Here is the poster for the 2019 Latitude Festival. You can see that there are different stages. The main stage has the most famous artists. The smaller stages have some well-known and some new artists. It also has a stage for comedy, a stage for theatre, and a stage for poetry and books.
In my town's festival, we paint the sheep pink!
We also have indoor stages, under a big tent.
- Does your town have any music festivals?
- If not, are there any festivals for food, theatre, or comedy?
Camping
When you go to a music festival, you often have to camp. When it's sunny, it's great!
Some people go 'glamping' at music festivals. This word means 'glamorous camping'.
Other people like to stay in camper vans:
Fashion
People like to wear unusual clothes at music festivals. Here are some photos of fashion at different festivals. What's your favourite?
Woodstock, 1960s:
Glastonbury, 1990s
Crowds
Over 200,000 people go to Glastonbury Festival every year. You can see how big the crowds are in this video:
Do you want to go to a festival this big?
Activity
In pairs, design your own music festival. Think about:
- Where you want to have it (In a town, in a city, on a farm...)
- Which artists are playing there
- What genres of music you have (a country and western festival, or rock, or everything...)
- How many stages you have
- Where people stay (in hotels, on a campsite...)
- If it is only a music festival (or also comedy, theatre, or literature...)
You can create an advertisement for the newspaper, a poster, or a short, spoken radio ad about your festival.
